Event promotes forward-looking energy technology

A trio of electrical industry entities recently hosted the first Grid Innovation Expo on Capitol Hill with two U.S. representatives in an effort to urge Congress to anticipate energy needs of the future.

Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) and Rep. Jerry McNerney (D-CA), who serve as co-chairs of the U.S. House Grid Innovation Caucus, hosted the event with the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), GridWise Alliance and National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA).

“As our nation’s energy infrastructure continues to age, it’s imperative that we commit to a serious discussion about how to improve grid resiliency and stability and bring our system into the 21st century,” McNerney said in an announcement.

Latta said in the announcement that it is crucial to “embrace cutting-edge technology.”

EEI, GridWise and NEMA showcased “smart grid” enhancements, power savings strategies and infrastructure reliability.

“The electric power industry is leading a profound transformation,” EEI president Tom Kuhn said.

Also spearheading the event were GridWise CEO Steve Hauser and NEMA President and CEO Kevin Cosgriff.

Exhibitors demonstrated a variety of next-generation systems designed to address energy storage, distribution, metering and weather resistance.

“We want a future where energy is delivered in a more reliable, efficient, and secure way to households and businesses across the country,” Latta said.
