A recent Texas law allows drivers to pay overdue traffic tickets on the spot, and one company is providing the technology to help police departments accept payment.
With Tecsiq, Texas law-enforcement departments have more options to employ, particularly in the case of people with traffic tickets for whom arrest warrants have been issued due to failure to pay.
Tecsiq serves law enforcement and court systems through its WarrantPayIQ system, which Texas enacted through Texas HB 121 in September 2015.
Previously, police officers were required to arrest, book and jail offenders upon discovery, often during roadside stops. Cars would be impounded and minor passengers could even be relegated to protective services, creating unnecessary expense and paperwork.
Through WarrantPayIQ, motorists can pay off outstanding fees immediately with a credit or debit card, allowing them to proceed without disruption.
“[M]ost importantly, citizens have a means for avoiding the embarrassment, disruption and additional costs associated with being arrested and taken to jail,” according to the American Legislative Exchange Council. “In this case, the citizens are the winners and the winning effects immediate.”
