Alliance to Save Energy honors Itron for its smart cities platform

Itron Inc., a technology and services provider for the energy and water sectors, recently accepted a Chairman’s Award from the Alliance to Save Energy (ASE) coalition for its innovative OpenWay Riva, an infrastructure-focused IoT (Internet of Things) platform, a release posted on the National Electrical Manufacturers Association website said.

Itron representatives received the honor at the ASE’s recent annual “Evening with the Stars of Energy Efficiency” awards dinner, where ASE President Kateri Callahan described Itron as being at the vanguard of the energy industry, the release said.

"Energy efficiency is a field of innovation and Itron is among six award winners … at the cutting edge," Callahan said in the release. "These honorees are each taking a lead in building a more efficient and productive economy, protecting the environment and strengthening our energy security. We are delighted to honor them for doing more with less."

Itron’s OpenWay Riva was designed as a solution for smart cities and smart utilities.

U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) presented the prize and praised Itron for its vision and dedication.

“OpenWay Riva technology … has helped reduce the demand on the energy grid, leading to improved energy efficiency and water resource management,” Shaheen said in the release. “These technologies are good for our economy and good for our environment, and along with the Alliance to Save Energy, I commend Itron for its innovation and commitment."
