The petroleum industry’s highest accolade — the Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement — was recently awarded to the Halliburton Co.’s David Lesar, who chairs the firm’s board of directors, commemorating his outstanding industry service and community involvement.

API commended Lesar on his role in facilitating “an era of unprecedented technological innovation” at Halliburton. He focused on research and development and simultaneously cut costs and increased sustainability.

Prior to serving as CEO at Halliburton for 17 years, Lesar was a partner at Arthur Andersen. He earned both a bachelor’s and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin and has served on several boards and councils.

"Dave’s visionary leadership in the industry and generosity to the community made him an easy choice for API’s highest honor,” API President and CEO Jack Gerard said. "Lesar’s unwavering commitment to creating a culture of achievement, inclusion and excellence for Halliburton’s more than 50,000 employees who operate in approximately 70 countries is a model for our industry.”

First presented in 1946 to Henry Ford, the award has been conferred annually in acknowledgement of exceptional leadership at the industrial, national and local levels.

Headquartered in Houston, Halliburton ranks among the world’s largest oilfield service providers, with operations throughout Alaska, Canada, Mexico and the continental U.S.
