Navy Federal Credit Union issued the following announcement on Feb. 8.
Navy Federal Credit Union is expanding eligibility for a special program that covers direct deposit of pay for its members in the event of a government shutdown. The credit union offers assistance to the following groups should any or all be affected:
All Federal government employees, including the Department of Defense
Active duty servicemembers of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard
Army or Air National Guard on federal active service
Officer Candidates of the Armed Forces
“While we hope the government remains open, we standby ready to assist our members,” said Tynika Wilson, senior vice president of debit card and funds services at Navy Federal. “Our members count on us for support. That’s our job, and that’s why we’re expanding eligibility of our program.”
Eligible members can opt in to a special program and receive coverage of their direct deposit if they’re affected. Information about the program will be available on Navy Federal’s website if the government officially shuts down.
“Covering pay for eligible members is the right thing to do,” said Wilson. “As we have in the past, we’ll continue to stand by and help members through the unique circumstances they face.”
Navy Federal’s program was previously available in similar situations in April 2011 and September 2013.
