The U.S. military could lose a war against China or Russia, according to a Congressional Research Service report, citing a study by the National Defense Strategy Commission.
While China and Russia have advanced their war-fighting capabilities, the United States has suffered significant erosion of the military advantage it once possessed, according to the CRS report, published on USNI News.
U.S. senior military leaders want to build a more lethal force, concerned that Russia and China might surpass the United States military, the CRS said.
The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) wants to connect intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) sensors, commanders and weapon systems in all domains, CRS said.
Each military branch shared initiatives that will help aid in this mission, the report said. It also offers a framework to Congress for ISR modernization.
"Congress’s decisions on these issues could have significant implications on the U.S. military’s competitive advantage versus China and Russia and its ability to compete, deter, and win in this environment," the CRS report said.
