Foreign policy experts said that they expect the alliance between the Republic of Korea and the U.S. to remain strong as the relationship approaches 70 years.

In 2023, the two nations will have marked 70 years of having a pact, though some experts were concerned that the alliance under President Donald Trump would endure.

The analysis comes from a review published by the Center for a New American Security in November.

The alliance began following the Korean War and has since evolved into one of the strongest bonds that the U.S. holds today.

This alliance has led to the foundation of not only a renewed resilience in the face of pending North Korean aggression but also new trade agreements that have seen both economies benefit greatly and continue to flourish, the review noted.

Additionally, people from each country are becoming more integrated than ever before, the report authored by Kristine Lee, Joshua Fitt and Coby Goldberg said. This became more evident earlier this year when the Koran film Parasite won the Academy Award for Best Picture in the U.S. Other cultural examples included ESPN broadcasting Korean baseball games during the early part of COVID-19, while American sports were sidelined.

While certain aspects of the alliance could grow and improve, the relationship remains a valuable and strong one into 2021, the review said.
